Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, Panjab University, Chandigarh, formally welcomed the incoming batch of BDS and MDS students in a white coat ceremony held here today.
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore graced the occasion. Prof VK Paul, member, NITI Aayog, and Prof Raj Kumar, PU Vice-Chancellor, were guests of honour.
Badnore advised the students to stay focused and move ahead in life with determination. He emphasised that white coat was a symbolic, non-verbal communication used to express and reaffirm a fundamental belief in a system that society observes. The authority of dress is serious and purposeful, not social, casual or random. He appreciated the oral healthcare facilities available at the institute and urged them to work more towards awareness and public outreach. He also talked about initiating oral healthcare programmes for children of sector schools of Chandigarh as a collaborative venture under the aegis of the UT Administration.
Prof VK Paul expressed his happiness to be part of the event and welcomed the students to the noble profession. He appreciated the parents for investing in their children and nurturing them to be able to be part of this profession.
PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar welcomed the students and urged them to follow the path of righteousness. He stressed that learning neither stood nor ended in the classroom. It was a life-long learning process and the students should willingly follow it.
Dr Jagat Bhushan, Principal-cum-Professor of the institute, impressed upon the students the essence of donning the white coat and the responsibilities that came with it.
After receiving their white coats from the dignitaries, the students undertook the dental oath.
Dr Gupta chief of Indian unit of Int’l College of Dentists
Chandigarh: Dr RP Gupta has been named the president of the International College of Dentists (ICD), Section-VI, which comprises India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, during the centenary celebrations of the ICD held in Delhi recently. Dr Gupta did his PG in paediatric dentistry from the PGI, Chandigarh, in 1985. He took voluntary retirement after serving 20 years in the GMSH-16, Chandigarh.
Manvi bajaj bags toppers’ trophy
Manvi Bajaj of the 2015 batch was awarded the toppers’ trophy. A student of Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, PU, she said without the support of faculty and Principal Dr Jagat Bhushan, she could not have passed the exams with flying colours.
