Burglars decamp with gold jewellery, cash from govt official’s Panchkula house

Accused locked the complainant’s son, who was asleep in his room

Unknown miscreants on Thursday burgled a cooperative department official’s house in Sector 11 of Panchkula, stealing items worth Rs 4 lakh, including gold and cash.

The theft took place while additional RCS Kavita Dhankhar was at her office in Sector 2. Her son, Aman Singh, was sleeping in the back room at the time.

According to Dhankhar, she left her house around 9.30 am for work. Around 12.15 pm, she received an alarming call from her son, who informed her that his room had been locked from outside. Dhankhar rushed back home only to find the front gate and the store gate open.

Upon entering the house, she discovered that several cupboards had been rummaged through, and various items were strewn across the floor. The locks on the cupboards had been broken. “I immediately checked my son’s room. He was unharmed. But when I checked the rest of the house,” the complainant stated.

According to the complaint registered at the Sector-5 police station, 6-7 tolas of gold jewellery and Rs 10,000 in cash were missing. The complaint also mentioned a thorough inventory of the remaining items was still being conducted, and a detailed list would be provided by the complainant.

The police have initiated an investigation is into the case.
