There is no stopping thieves in Kharar. In the sixth daylight theft in the area in the past fortnight, thieves broke three locks — one on the screen door and two on the main one – of a flat in residential society and stole valuables.
The burglary took place on the ninth floor of the D Block at CGWHO Kendriya Vihar-1, Sunny Enclave, on Saturday. The owner, AS Patial, a retired DIG of the ITBP, was away to his ancestral house in Himachal Pradesh. “They broke open the lock on the iron mesh door and the main door. What else can one do to secure the flat in a gated society,” he said, blaming the Residents Welfare Association for lax security on the complex.
This was the sixth theft in the society in the past fortnight. Five houses were burgled between 12 noon and 4 pm on August 30. An FIR was registered. Residents said thieves had no fear of the police, as hardly any patrolling was carried out in the area. “The matter was brought to the notice of the police, but to no avail,” said RWA office-bearers.
Meanwhile, police officials said they were scanning the CCTV footage to get a clue to the thieves.
