Cab drivers write to SSP over challans

Members of the Tricity Cab Driver Welfare Association today urged the SSP (Traffic) not to issue challans to drivers over uniform.

In a letter to the SSP (Traffic), Vikram Singh, president of the association, stated that most of the time drivers were in uniform, but the police still issued challan by finding some fault in the uniform. For a long time, blue pants and blue shirts are being used by drivers as uniforms, and any kind of safari suit is included in the uniform code, he added.

He requested the SSP that if any driver was wearing blue pants and blue shirt or safari suit and had also affixed his name plate, then he should not be challaned. He added that if the taxi driver was with his family, then he should be exempted from wearing uniform.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
