The 76th Republic Day of India was celebrated with great patriotic fervour at the administrative block of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Kamal Kishor Yadav, IAS. The Vice-Chancellor extended Republic Day greetings to the teaching and non-teaching staff. Prof Baljit Singh Khehra, Registrar (O), unfurled the national flag. Addressing the gathering, Prof Khehra urged the audience to strive to preserve the ideals of the Constitution and paid tribute to the martyrs and heroes of the freedom movement. He also highlighted Dr BR Ambedkar’s monumental contribution to the drafting and adoption of the Constitution. Prof Kanwalvir Singh Dhindsa, Controller of Examinations, reflected on India’s transition from British dominion to a sovereign republic. Dr Navleen Multani, Dean of Research and Director of Public Relations, shared JGND PSOU is organising a national quiz competition on Republic Day to commemorate the pivotal moment of the Constitution’s implementation. He said the aim of the event is to raise awareness of values such as justice, equality, and fraternity. The programme was moderated by Dr Vinod Kumar and faculty members, along with non-teaching staff, attended the event.
Rayat Bahra Group, Mohali

Chandigarh University, Chandigarh
A 33-member contingent from Chandigarh University, Ghauran, met the Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, following the university’s historic win of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy (MAKA). The contingent, led by Deep Inder Singh Sandhu, Senior Managing Director of Chandigarh University, was congratulated for their achievement. The governor praised the MAKA Trophy, which has been presented for over six decades as one of the highest honours for inter-university sports in India, noting the university has made history by becoming the first private university to win the trophy.
Desh Bhagat University, Chandigarh
The university has launched a new fellowship programme in honour of India’s former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh. The initiative aims to support research and societal progress, offering 15 PhD slots. The programme would provide 10 fellowships for Indian scholars and five fellowships for international scholars. Chancellor Dr Zora Singh stated the fellowship would encourage scholars to contribute to research that aligns with global challenges and societal advancement.
Aryans Group of Colleges, Mohali
A seminar on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was jointly organised by Aryans College of Law and the District Bar Association, Chandigarh. Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman of the Aryans Group of Colleges, attended as the chief guest, along with Parminder Singh, Secretary of the District Bar Association. Dr Nancy Sharma, Assistant Professor at the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, was the keynote speaker. She elaborated on the 2023 BNS, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023 to the students.
Sri Sukhmani Dental College, Mohali
Sri Sukhmani Dental College and Hospital in Dera Bassi celebrated Prosthodontist Day with a series of events. The celebration included Rangoli making, skit performances, poster presentations and meme competitions, showcasing the artistic talents of the students. The highlight of the programme was a promotional event for an upcoming Punjabi movie, where the entire cast and crew interacted with students and faculty.
Postgraduate Govt College, Sec 11, Chandigarh
The career counseling and placement cell of the college collaborated with the alumni association, to launch their motivational lecture series for 2025. The series kicked off with a talk on “Global Career Opportunities Through Skill Route: Empowering Students for the Future.” Dr Rakesh Thakur, the Convener, emphasised the importance of leveraging India’s demographic dividend to fulfil the “Skill India” and “Make in India” initiatives in a mission mode.
Postgraduate Govt College, Sec 46, Chandigarh
The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) and the Department of Political Science at the college organised several events on National Voters’ Day. The principal of the college, Dr JK Sehgal, congratulated the young voters and emphasised the power of every single vote. The principal administered the voter’s day pledge during the programme.
GCCBA, Sector 50, Chandigarh
The Government College of Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 50, in collaboration with the South Election Commission, Sector 42, organised an intra-college rangoli making competition. A total of 10 entries were received and the winners were awarded certificates of merit. The principal, Dr Shashi Wahi Khullar, along with Dinesh Rana, Supervisor of South Division AERO 09, presented the awards and recognised the Best Nodal Officer.
