Chandigarh: The Physics Association of Department of Physics in Panjab University observed the National Science Day. The keynote speaker, city’s renowned cardiologist Dr Rajesh Vijayvergiya, professor at Department of Cardiology in PGIMER spoke on the recent advances in cardiovascular sciences, lighting the breakthroughs in heart health and strategies for the prevention of acute heart attack. He stressed the pivotal role of a balanced diet, regular exercise and stress management in maintaining a healthy heart.

Workshop on waste management

Chandigarh: The NSS unit of Panjab University will conduct a hands-on capacity building workshop to impart knowledge on waste management, water conservation and ways to curb the use of single-use plastic. Praveen Goyal and Principal Investigator of Northern Region S&T Cluster (PI-RAHI) Prof Rajat Sandhir would be the coordinator and chief coordinator, respectively.

National Science Day observed

Chandigarh: Panjab University’s Department of Chemistry and Centre for Advanced Studies in Chemistry celebrated the National Science Day in collaboration with IIC. Various competitions were organised on the theme ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’, with participants presenting their scientific ideas in an immaculate manner.

Chandigarh: Centre for Public Health at Panjab University conducted a workshop on ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’ to celebrate the National Science Day. Students were familiarised with entrepreneurial opportunities in the field of health sector.

1-day seminar on Vaidik Dharma

Chandigarh: Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies in Panjab University organised a one-day national seminar on ‘Dayanand-Nigadit Vaidik Dharma Ki Svarup-Mimamsa’. Dr Sushma Alankar, Dr Vikram, Dr Vijay Bharadwaj, Anshul Chaudhary, Sandeep and Apoorav presented their research papers during the seminar.

Talk on insect societies

Chandigarh: To celebrate the National Science Day, Indian Science Congress Association (Chandigarh Chapter) in association with the Department of Zoology and Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology organised a distinguished talk by Professor Raghavendra Gadgkar — an eminent scientist at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. The title of talk was ‘What We Can Learn from Insect Societies’. He highlighted his studies on insect societies and gave several examples stating that we could discover several parallels with human societies to gain deeper appreciation for the diversity of life on the planet.

Session on Pedagogy in Higher Edu

Chandigarh: A valedictory session of the refresher course on ‘Pedagogy in Higher Education’ was today held at the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre. UGC- Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre Honorary Director Prof Anju Suri welcomed the guests and congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the course. Participants from higher education institutes from six states attended the programme.

Interactive session at PEC

Chandigarh: Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) hosted an interactive session for the students of 1981-batch of university’s Mechanical Engineering department. Gursharan Singh, an alumnus and senior vice-president of Micron Technology, attended the event with some of his batchmates. He interacted with the students who have been selected as interns at the company and appreciating their knowledge and technical skills.

Poetry-recitation contest at PGGC

Chandigarh: The Department of Bachelor of Computer Application of Post Graduate Government College (PGGC) in Sector 46 here organised a poetry-recitation competition. A total of 20 students participated in it. The students evaluated the performances of their fellow participants, making it a unique event altogether.

Poster-making contest at CGC

Mohali: Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran, observed the National Science Day by organising a poster-making competition on the slogan ‘Vote Power’. Divya, Karthik, Khushpreet, Muskan Palak, Ritika and Sonam were awarded certificates and medals.

2nd phase of Sapt Sindhu Lit Fest

Chandigarh: The second phase of the Sapt Sindhu Literature Fest held at PU witnessed discussions on the contributions of Sapt Sindhu. In the first session, Varinder Garg, Amarjeet Grewal, Satnam Sandhu, Padma Shri-awardee Surjit Patar and PU Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig shared detailed information about the 3000-year-old culture with the students.
