The UT Administration has refused to reserve any quota (at least 10 beds) for Panjab University employees hit by Covid-19 at the 100-bed makeshift hospital by Western Command at the international hostel of the campus in Sector 25.
However, the Administration ensured the PU of preference to the employees at the Sector 25 or any other centre, as per the availability of beds. The Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) had written to the UT Administrator for reserving at least 10 beds at the Sector 25 facility.
“A request was received from PUTA to reserve 10 beds at the Sector 25 facility. It is neither advisable nor feasible to reserve beds for any specific category. However, in case the patient is from Panjab University (employees, dependents, research scholars and students), the Administration will try to admit them preferably at the Sector 25 facility, on the condition of availability of beds. If bed are unavailable, patients will be admitted to any other facility,” read the circular.
Last month, the Covid Task Force, PU, had also raised the same issue. Earlier, on the request of PUTA, the authorities had granted permission to use PU faculty house for accommodating infected employees or their family members. PUTA also started arrangements for home delivery of meals for employees facing problems and appreciate the help extended by the DSW.
