Car catches fire on Zirakpur flyover

Traffic was halted briefly after a car caught fire on the Zirakpur flyover on Tuesday.

A moving car suddenly caught fire on the Zirakpur flyover this afternoon.

The owner of the Tata Nano car, who has since been identified as Krish, said he noticed sparking in the car while travelling on the Zirakpur-Chandigarh National Highway. Soon after, smoke started emitting from the vehicle.

"I hurriedly parked the car roadside and bailed out. Soon it caught fire," he further added.

A fire tender was pressed into service after information about the incident was received. The firefighters doused the flames but by then the car had been completely gutted.

Fire officials said no one has been injured in the incident. The movement of traffic was affected for a brief perdiod as the car went up in flames, road users said.
