A 31-year-old cart rider died when a speeding car hit his vehicle in the rear side on the Chandigarh-Ambala road here last night.

The victim has been identified as Pravesh Kumar, a resident of Zirakpur village. The car driver fled the spot, leaving the vehicle behind.

Mubarikpur police incharge Kamal Taneja said the incident took place around 11 pm when the victim was on his way back home with some waste material on a motorcycle cart. As he approached the Ghaggar bridge, the car hit him. Parvesh Kumar died on the spot. The car driver too was injured in the mishap.

The body was handed over to the victim’s kin after postmortem. The police have impounded the car and registered a case against its driver.
