Carts continue to lift waste from most houses in Chandigarh

Though the second phase of the household garbage collection through MC’s two-bin vehicles started today, yet old practice of lifting waste through carts also continued at many places.

Baring Sectors 24 and 38, most residents in other sectors said carts lifted waste from their houses. Mayor Ravi Kant Sharma said, “These are teething problems. Gradually all area will be covered in a phased manner through two-bin vehicles.”

The Sector 48 RWA president, JJ Singh, said, “Carts lifted waste from houses today, but the area councillor has told us that vehicles will start coming soon for collecting waste.”

From today onwards, the Municipal Corporation (MC) claimed to have deployed 70 more vehicles in southern sectors, including Sectors 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 38 West, 46, 47 and 48. But, these vehicles were not seen in all areas.

“In the third phase, remaining sectors will be covered in a week or so,” said MC officials.

Earlier, Mayor Ravi Kant today flagged off the second phase of the door-to-door waste collection through MC vehicles near Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38.
