Cash collection agent shot at in Ambala, hurt

Two bike-borne miscreants flee with bag containing Rs 2L, Rs 2.36L bank drafts; victim under treatment at PGI

A 27-year-old man suffered a bullet injury after two unidentified miscreants opened fire at him and fled with his bag carrying cash near Bhoor Mandi in Ambala Cantonment here today.

The injured has been identified as Gaurav, a resident of Shahabad.

As per information, the victim works for an e-pay company and used to collect cash from customers and deposit it in bank. The Power Department has also given a contract to the company to collect cash.

The incident took place around 3.15 pm when the victim was on his way towards Punjab National Bank in Defence Colony after collecting cash from a counter at the power house in Babyal village.

As he reached near Bhoor Mandi, two unidentified motorcycle-borne men with their faces covered stopped him and said he had harassed their sister. As Gaurav became suspicious and tried to flee, the suspects opened fire at him and managed to escape with his cash bag.

As per information, there were around Rs 2 lakh and demand drafts worth around Rs 2.36 lakh in the bag.

A case has been registered on the complaint of Atitosh Kumar Singh, SDO, Power Department.

The SDO said, “Gaurav was carrying around Rs 90,000 belonging to the department and the rest amount belonged to the e-pay company.”

While the exact number of bullet injuries sustained by the victim are yet to be confirmed, a bullet was pumped into his body near the chest. After sustaining the bullet injury, Gaurav managed to go back to the power house from where he was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment.

Doctors there referred him to the PGI, Chandigarh.

A case has been registered under Section 34 and 394 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Mahesh Nagar police station.

Mahesh Nagar SHO Subhash said, “Two men opened fire at Gaurav and he is undergoing treatment at the PGI. CCTV footages are being checked and an investigation in the case is on.”

SP Abhishek Jorwal said, “The miscreants tried to snatch Gaurav’s bag. As he resisted, they opened fire at him. Teams have been formed to nab the suspects.”
