Caught on camera, Chandigarh MC challans two for littering
To instill civic sense among people, the Municipal Corporation has started challaning individuals found throwing garbage in public places, with the help of CCTV cameras installed across the city.
Two challans were issued near BSNL, Manimajra, today for violations, which were caught on camera. Each violator has been fined Rs 13,401 in accordance with the municipal guidelines.
The initiative is part of the MC’s broader mission to promote proper waste management and ensure adherence to the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Rules. Citizens are reminded that waste segregation at the source is mandatory. Segregated waste must be handed over to MC’s designated waste collectors only.
MC Commissioner Amit Kumar said, “No one will be spared if found throwing garbage in public spaces. With the help of CCTV surveillance, we will issue challans to the violators and follow it up with strict legal action for repeated offences.” He urged residents to contribute towards maintaining the cleanliness in the city. The action serves as a warning to habitual offenders and a reminder to all citizens of their civic duties.
