Cave-ins near PSEB building in Mohali worry commuters
Residents of Phases 8, 9, 10, Sectors 68 and 69 flagged the road cave-ins near Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) building in Sector 62, noting that the stretch has become accident prone.
They complained that massive sinkholes have developed on the service road, where hundreds of pedestrians and government school children take autos.
“At night, in the lack of proper street lights, autorickshaws, cyclists and pedestrians fall into the cave-ins. The safety hazard is right in the middle of the town but the Municipal Corporation has failed to take any action,” said Amarpreet Kaur, a resident of Phase-9.
PSEB staffers said the spot is in close vicinity to the traffic light points on a busy stretch. The nearby park, they said, is frequented by the elderly.
“It has been more than a year. The caution tape around a sinkhole has come off now. At other places, it is a death trap,” said Manpreet Singh Ubhi, a resident of Phase 10, who walks by the stretch of the road daily.
Autorickshaw drivers said they are aware and mindful of it now but cautioned against the threat for unsuspecting, unfamiliar road users.
Gagandeep Singh, a resident of Sector 69, said the caution tape has shredded with time but it is a proof that MC officials left the repair work midway.
Municipal Commissioner T Benith said he would have the issue looked into.
