C&C Company director arrested for duping investors of crores

The local police arrested Sanjay Gupta, one of the directors of C&C Company, constructing-maintaining-operating Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) on Friday.

The police said Gupta was arrested from Delhi. The Mohali police had issued a look out circular against the chairman and directors of the C&C Company in February this year.

In the action taken report submitted in the High Court (HC) in February this year, the Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kuldeep Singh Chahal, had stated that the police had conducted raids at various places in Gurugram in an attempt to arrest the suspect, but failed in its attempt.

The action was taken by the Mohali police following directions of the HC, which had sought report from the SSP in this regard.

As stated in the report, lookout circulars were issued against company chairman Gurjeet Singh Johar along with directors Charanbir Singh Sethi and Sanjay Gupta after the police failed to arrest them.

Chahal said the police had arrested one of the directors of C&C Company from Delhi. All suspects were booked for duping various investors, who had invested crores in Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Chahal added.

“We have sought police remand for the arrested suspect for further investigation,” Chahal said.

The Punjab State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission Chandigarh had also issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) and lookout notices against chairman and chief general manager of C&C Towers, which as constructing Baba Banda Singh Bahadur ISBT in Mohali.

The lookout notices have been issued to all airports with the information about the suspects so that they may not leave the country without appearing before the commission. The NBWs have been issued against suspects to the SSPs concerned of all districts where airports are situated in India.

A complaint was filed by Harpreet Singh, a resident of Chandigarh, who approached the company for purchasing property at the new ISBT in Mohali in April, 2013.

The complainant prayed that he had paid all requisite fee, amount and submitted other papers, but promoters failed to deliver the property.

Jagdeep Singh, one of the petitioners and clients of the company, said, “We have been chasing chairman and directors for getting refund of our investments, but failed to do so after which we all lodged complaints with the Mohali police.”

“Around 100 investors, who deposited Rs 20 lakh to Rs 1 crore earnest money with C&C Company to book space in the ISBT complex, have been duped. Sixteen complainants in the case apart from over 40 other complaints against the company are lying pending with the local police,” he added.
