Celebrations erupt as India beat Pakistan
The otherwise relaxing Sunday evening witnessed some fretful moments as cricket buffs remained glued to television screens before India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the Champions Trophy clash in Dubai.
Screens were specially put up at various places across the tricity to provide cricket fans an environment to cheer for the Men in Blue. Though the restaurants and pubs didn’t witness any rush during the first half when Pakistan batted, the places telecasting the match live started to fill with the cricket fans in the evening. “The Sunday evening is usually meant for socialising or spending time with family. Since the Indian team was playing Pakistan, we friends chose to watch the match and enjoy some booze,” said Ashish while enjoying the match at a Sector 35 restaurant. “It was great to see Virat getting a century,” added Sheetal, cheering for the Indian team at the same venue.
The scenes were no different at Sector 26 eating joints and discotheques, where the entire focus was on the match till the last ball was bowled. “I hope the Indian team continue to perform with the same enthusiasm and bring home the trophy,” said Patiala resident Dheepinder Singh who was in the city to enjoy the match at a discotheque.
“The India-Pakistan affair always attracts attention and we had special arrangements for the cricket buffs,” said Prabhdeep, a manager of a local outlet.
City’s famous sports clubs, including Chandigarh Golf Range (CGR) and Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC), had made special arrangements for the live telecast of the match by installing big screens. “The Indian team played very well, especially in the middle overs while chasing the target,” said Sukhman while enjoying the match at CGR.
