Chandigarh, June 30

The Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) today levelled serious allegations against the PU authorities on the recent controversy regarding taking over the possession of the Centre for Nuclear Medicine building.

“The claim by the Dean, University Instructions (DUI), that the PGI has declined to continue with the joint venture was completely misleading and factually incorrect. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the PU and the PGI for the MSc course in nuclear medicine is already under process,” alleged PUTA secretary Prof AS Naura.

He added, “The DUI’s statement contradicts the records of the university. According to a communication issued by the Registrar, PGI, the Director of the premier institute has agreed to an interim relief arrangement for students of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 batches to impart clinical training till the final decision on the renewal of the MoU.”

“It is shocking as well as unfortunate that the DUI made a false claim, apparently due to some vested interests, which became evident when she chose to reconstitute department committees yesterday, in the middle of the year, by violating the PU Calendar,” claimed Naura.

Prof Supinder Kaur, vice-president, PUTA, alleged that teachers/departments were being forced to succumb to the pressure tactics for merging the departments irrationally. “A recent decision of the authorities to remove the PU Librarian from the post without citing any reason shows their growing confidence to work as per their whims and fancies,” alleged Supinder.
