Chandigarh, July 29

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned 341 posts for the PGIMER Satellite Centre at Sangrur. Of the total posts sanctioned, 24 have been reserved for assistant professor, 18 for senior resident, and 36 for junior resident.

As many as 195 nursing officers will also be hired among others that include faculty and non-faculty posts.

PGI Deputy Director Gaurav Dhawan said: “The posts have been sanctioned by the Government of India and will now be advertised at the institute level soon.”

In October 2013, the foundation stone of the 300-bed PGIMER Satellite Centre at Sangrur was laid, offering specialised medical services to Malwa residents. The project, worth Rs 449 crore, is coming up on 25 acres, provided by the Punjab Government to the PGIMER.

The centre is likely to be completed by the end of October. The hospital OPD is already offering services under various specialties, including internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, ENT, orthopaedics, dermatology and dental.

Diagnostic facilities of X-ray and ECG, and laboratory services in biochemistry, haematology and microbiology are also available.
