Chandigarh, September 5
Chandigarh reported 234 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, an administration-issued medical bulletin said in the evening—making this the fifth straight 200-plus single-day rise in infection numbers in the union territory.
The UT also recorded one new death—a 27-year-old man from Sector 14 who had Type-II diabetes. He died at Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32.
The UT’s COVID-19 tally now stands at 5,502 with 69 deaths. Nearly 39 per cent of Chandigarh’s cases are still active.
Chandigarh has seen a significant rise in cases since the beginning of the month—the UT has reported over 1,156 new cases and 13 since September 1 as compared to 219 new coronavirus cases and five deaths in the first five days of August.
