Chandigarh Administration ropes in institute to improve road, sewerage infra at Sector 26 mandi

The UT Engineering Department has sought consultancy from the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) to improve the road and sewerage infrastructure in the Sector 26 fruit and vegetable market.

Hari Kallikkat, Secretary, State Agricultural Marketing Board, today held a meeting with officials of the UT Engineering Department, Mandi associations and NITTR representatives to assess developmental and infrastructural works at the Sector 26 market.

An NITTTR representative said a preliminary survey had been conducted and a detailed plan would be submitted within five days.

Engineering officials said estimates for the installation of high-mast CCTV cameras and lighting upgrade had been prepared and tenders would be floated shortly.

Market Committee Administrator Paviter Singh briefed the Secretary about sanitation drives, removal of unauthorised vendors and steps being taken for decongestion and smooth functioning of the mandi.

The Secretary directed all departments concerned to implement the directions issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court after taking a suo motu notice of the condition of the mandi.
