Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria will unfurl the national flag to start the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 here on Friday.
In view of the ongoing monsoon season, the UT Administration has made various arrangements, including pitching a waterproof tent at the venue to protect the dignitaries from rain. The Meteorological Department has predicted partly cloudy sky with thunderstorm and rain on Friday.
The celebrations will begin with the unfurling of the Tricolour followed by various other programmes, including a parade by contingents of the police, armed forces, police band and NSS students. Civil Defence volunteers, who were enrolled in Chandigarh after the Operation Sindoor, will also be part of the parade.
The programme will showcase vibrant cultural performances by students from various schools, reflecting the rich heritage and diversity of India.
The police have implemented a comprehensive security plan, including strategic traffic diversions, public advisories and enhanced deployment to manage anticipated crowds and ensure a smooth conduct of the event.
The Administration has invited all citizens to participate in the 79th Independence Day celebrations with pride and enthusiasm.
