Chandigarh has attained the aspiring leader ranking for strengthening the start-up ecosystem in the city by creating a state-of-the-art SPIC incubation facility and providing incubation support to young entrepreneurs in setting up their ventures.

The evaluation exercise adopted by the DPIIT for start-up rankings 2021 evolved to focus more on the implementation and grass-roots impact of the policies and its evaluated measures undertaken from October 1, 2019, to July 31, 2021. The third edition witnessed the highest ever participation of 24 states and seven UTs.

The ranking certificate was presented to Chandigarh in the presence of Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Textiles, and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

The department conducted the third edition to incentivise states and UTs to act towards holistically developing their start-up ecosystems.

The exercise identifies the best practices which have been pivotal in supporting startup growth and fostering a culture of mutual learning between States and UTs.

To encourage young entrepreneurs, the UT Administration is mulling over a city-specific start-up policy. At present, start-ups can register on a portal of the Central Government.
