In an embarrassing moment, Chandigarh batters surrendered at 64 runs against Uttar Pradesh during the opening day’s play of the Cooch Behar Trophy match at the Solitaire Cricket Ground. Pacer Aayan Akram claimed a stunning five-wicket haul to pack the local batters for 64. In reply, the Uttar Pradesh batters posted 257/3 at the draw of stumps to record a 193-run lead.

Chandigarh skipper, Ehit Salaria won the toss and opted to bat. Sarthak Kamal (26) and Rupesh Yadav (11) were the only two to make a double-figure contribution.

For UP, the opening pair of Shanthanu Singh and Anmol Noushran started off well with a 67-run stand. However, Bhavi Sharma went on a rampage and scored 108.

Karnataka’s Smaran brings trouble for city lads

Winning the toss, Karnataka skipper Mayank Aggarwal opted to bat. The side lost first three batters with 64 on board. However, Smaran R and Karun Nair held the fort tight. He posted unbeaten 110, while Shreyas Gopal (38) remained not out.
