The Congress criticised the statement of Chandigarh BJP president Jatinder Pal Malhotra on farmers which he made on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

The BJP chief had posted a message related to “fake” farmers. He had stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was doing welfare of farmers through various schemes, but he (Malhotra) criticised “fake” farmers.

His post went viral and was criticised by some quarters following which he deleted it. “I only posted about fake farmers. Some people objected to it, so I deleted the post,” said Malhotra.

However, HS Lucky, city Congress president, in a statement, alleged, “What he posted on ‘X’ clearly shows the anti-farmer mentality of the BJP. The statement is the reflection of his party’s thought process as regards to farmers. What else can be expected from a party which was responsible for the death of 700 innocent farmers in the last kisan aandolan.”

“The BJP should have some empathy towards the poor farmers who work so hard and still don’t get their due. The BJP should tender a public apology for such ‘low’ remarks against the farmers,” he added.
