Chandigarh boys win softball nationals
Chandigarh’s boys teams and Madhya Pradesh’s girls team won the 43rd Junior National Softball Championship, which concluded at Panjab University grounds.
Hosted by Chandigarh Softball Association, the tournament’s boys’ final saw the local team record a 4-2 win over Madhya Pradesh. The championship match saw a stellar performance from Chandigarh’s pitcher Chaitanya, whose pinpoint accuracy neutralised the Madhya Pradesh batters.
Key offensive contributions came from Swastik and Aman, propelling the home team to victory. Despite a spirited fight back by Madhya Pradesh’s Sakalp and Vickey, the visitors fell short in the final innings. Maharashtra claimed the third place in the event.
In the girls’ final, Madhya Pradesh emerged victorious by registering a marginal 3-2 win over Haryana. Chhattisgarh eves came in third.
Evana, Sahra win skating medals
In the recently concluded New India High School Skating Carnival, Evana claimed the gold medal in the girls’ Under-4 quad event and boys Sahra Mehta won the boys’ event. In the U-6 quads event, Mahira and Advik won the girls’ and boys’ gold medal, respectively, while in the inline event, Shayan Tanwar won the boys’ final, and Evana won the top honour in the girls’ event. In the girls’ U-8 event, Shraina Sachdeva won the gold medal and Raghav Sharma won the boy’s event. Nancy Handa, Principal of the school, awarded the winners and the team of Rolling Tigers won more than 60 medals in this event. TNS
State Boxing meet on June 6
The Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association will organise the 44th Junior (boys) and 20th Junior (girls) Chandigarh State Championship, at the Sector 42 Boxing Hall, from June 6 to 7. The local teams will be selected to participate in the National Championships, scheduled to be held in Rohtak. Local boxers born in the years 2009 and 2010 will be eligible to participate. All boxers are required to bring original date of birth certificate, Aadhar card, school identification card. TNS
Taekwondo meet concludes
A The 8th Emerald Taekwondo Championship 2025 concluded today followed by Annual Award Ceremony held at Carmel Convent School, Sector 9. Participants gave their best in various events such as taekwondo fight, breaking, speed kicking, and poomsae. Divyansh Sangwan, Aarna Arora, Uhaana Malik, Ryna, Ravi Gharti, Dev Raj Gharti, Anupam Singh, Reena, Hema Rana who excelled at national level were also felicitated. TNS
Snehalaya girls shine
The girls’ team of Snehalaya, Child Welfare Committee, Vocational Training Centre, Malaoya, bagged medals at the first State Relay Athletics Association Championship. In the U-8 category, Durga Tanya and Vibhisha claimed the silver medal, while in the U-10 event, Pooja won the gold medal, followed by Jasmeen who won two bronze medals, and Kanchan and Kalpna with one bronze medal each. In the U-16 event, Antima bagged the silver medal. Sport teacher, Mahima congratulated the winners. TNS
