A Chandigarh Police constable allegedly shot himself with his service weapon at his house in Police Complex, Dhanas, on Thursday night.

Kailash (35), the deceased, was posted with the security wing at the District Court.

According to officials, he reached home around 6 pm after completing his duty shift from 8:30 am to 5 pm. He allegedly shot himself around 9.45 pm when he was alone at home. His wife and son had stepped out for a walk. On hearing the gunshot, they rushed back home and found him gravely injured. The cop was rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research where he was declared dead on arrival.

A PCR team and forensic experts reached the spot soon after getting information about the incident. Initial findings suggested that Constable Kailash might have been under personal stress, though the exact cause of his action remains unclear. No suicide note was found at the scene.
