Chandigarh cops gear up for Republic Day, keep habitual offenders under watch
Chandigarh, January 21
In preparation for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations in the city, the UT police conducted an exercise to monitor movements of habitual offenders and people recently released from jail.
The verification drive covered all five police subdivisions in which a total of 158 persons were verified. A police official said the objective was to prevent habitual offenders and recent parolees from engaging in illegal activities.
In addition, flag marches were conducted in different parts of the city, including Khuda Lahora, Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, Mani Majra, Ram Darbar and Dadu Majra colony by the police, ITBP, RAF and the CAPF.
The police said to enhance security, area domination and evening checkpoints were also being laid at various locations to routinely inspect suspected persons and vehicles.
