Chandigarh councillors donate 1-month’s salary to aid Punjab flood victims
To support the flood victims in Punjab, several councillors of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation donated their one-month's salary.
On Tuesday, a cheque for Rs 1,75,000 was handed over at the office of Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar to Jaspreet Kaur and Gurvinder Happy, representatives of the ‘Tera Hi Tera’ mission run by the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Sewa Society, for the Punjab Relief Fund.
Ten councillors — Gurpreet Singh Gabi, Kuljit Singh Sandhu, Prem Lata, Anju Katyal, Taruna Mehta, Suman Sharma, Nirmala Devi, Satinder Singh Sidhu and Jasbir Singh Bunty — have each donated their one-month's salary to support the flood‑affected people of Punjab.
They said that Punjab, which is always at the forefront of national relief efforts, now itself needs urgent help in the face of this natural calamity. They emphasised the need for everyone to stand firmly with Punjab in this hour of need.
The municipal councillors appealed to the public to understand the suffering of flood victims and come forward to support their rehabilitation, including their food and medical needs. They also offered prayers for the safety of life and property in Punjab.
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla also announced that she will donate her one-month's salary to the flood victims. She stated, “We all are united in helping our brothers and sisters in Punjab who are facing tough times due to the floods.”
