Chandigarh, December 24
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge today granted a bail to Amanjot Singh, a 25-year-old, in a rape case. According to the prosecution, the case dates back to September 14, 2019<, when a 22-year-old resident of Mandi, told the police that she came to Chandigarh for her studies in 2014 and stayed in Sector 22, Chandigarh. She said she came in contact with Amanjot in 2016.
She alleged that the Amanjot was having a relationship with her and raped her repeatedly on the pretext of marriage.
On her complaint, a case under Sections 376 (2) of the IPC was registered at Sector 39 police station on September 14, 2019 and Amanjot was arrested on December 2.
Defence counsel, AS Gujral, mentioned that Amanjot was studying in Punjabi University, Patiala, at that relevant period and did his Bachelor of Technology and thereafter, he went to UK for higher studies. He left India on September 20, 2017 and came back on January 30, 2019, claimed Gujral. He said there was no document to prove that the accused ever promised to marry the victim. After hearing the arguments, the court granted bail to the Amanjot. — TNS
