Chandigarh electricity staff protest for demands

On the call of the UT Powermen Union, Chandigarh, employees of the UT Electricity Department staged a dharna near their office in Sector 17 here today.

Addressing the protesters, union general secretary Gopal Dutt Joshi condemned the negative attitude of the Chandigarh Administration and the Engineering Department on the demands of the electricity employees.

He said the protest was held to draw the attention of the Administration to their demands like immediate reinstatement of the suspended Executive Engineer and Assistant Executive Engineer, immediate procurement of tools and safety equipment for the employees, restoration of old pension to the employees employed on posts advertised before 2004, increasing the salary limit for the ESI deduction, etc.
