Chandigarh fixes charges for private ambulances

Chandigarh, May 17
Showing concern over reports of patients being fleeced by private ambulances in various parts of the country, the UT Administration today fixed the hiring charges for ambulances to be used by citizens for transporting patients within and outside Chandigarh.
As per an order issued by Deputy Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar, any breach will invite action as per law, which may include cancellation of the driving licence of the ambulance driver or cancellation of the registration certificate of the ambulance. Non-compliance of instructions may also lead to impounding of the ambulance and imposition of penalty starting from a minimum of Rs50,000.
Ambulance charges
- Fixed rate per day for 24 hour (for hiring by the Health Department, UT, for Covid-19 duty) – Rs2,000
- Local Chandigarh, Panchkula and SAS Nagar – Rs250 per trip up to 20 km, after 20 km at Rs10 per km
- Outstation – Rs10 per km (plain area) and Rs11 per km (hill area)
- Fixed rate per day for 24 hours (for hiring by the Health Department, UT, for Covid-19 duty) – Rs2,500
- Local Chandigarh, Panchkula and SAS Nagar – Rs300 per trip up to 20 km, after 20 km atRs12 per km
- Outstation – Rs12 per km (plain area) and Rs13 per km (hill area)
With ventilator
- Fixed rate per day for 24 hours (for hiring by the Health Department, UT, for Covid-19 duty) – Rs3,000
- Local Chandigarh, Panchkula and SAS Nagar – Rs400 per trip up to 20 km, after 20 km at Rs15 per km
- Outstation – Rs15 per km (plain area) and Rs16 per km (hill area)
Waiting charges: Rs100 per hour or part thereof
