As Covid-19 fear is keeping devotees away from city gaushalas, their managements have turned to the Municipal Corporation for financial help to run their operations.
The MC is going to help the gaushalas through cow cess. The corporation has proposed to give Rs60 per cattle per day to Shirdi Sai Samaj to maintain the Maloya gaushala for three months due to the Covid pandemic. At present, it is getting Rs30 per cow per day.
MC Commissioner KK Yadav said: “The Maloya management told us that due to the Covid pandemic, a few people are coming to the temple from where they are also operating the gaushala. So, we have proposed to give Rs60 per cattle per day to them for a temporary period. We are also giving Rs30 per day per cow to the Sector 45 gaushala. Cow cess is there for this purpose.”
This agenda will be tabled at the MC House meeting for approval on July 30.
Vinod Kumar, vice-president, Gauri Shankar Seva Dal, which is running the Sector 45 gaushala without any charges, said: “We got MC’s financial help for only one month. Like Maloya, we should also be provided help. Our volunteers have been visiting door to door in the city and Punjab for donation.”
The MC runs two gaushalas in the Industrial Area and spends a huge amount on them.
Opposition leader Devinder Singh Babla has been highlighting in MC House meetings that these gaushalas should be given to NGOs like in Sector 45 so that they run it without any charges.
On this, the Commissioner said: “The Maloya gaushala management has told us that unlike Sector 45, they have locational disadvantage and less number of people come there. So, we have been giving them Rs30 per day per cow. While as far as our gaushalas in the Industrial Area are concerned, we will do the needful once we have our Raipur Kalan gaushala ready.”
