Chandigarh girl Amrit Singh tops ISC results in tricity

City girl Amrit Singh has topped the tricity in the ISC Class XII examinations by securing 98.5 per cent marks in the humanities stream. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations announced the results today.

Amrit, a Sector 19 resident, who passed out from Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, said, “It was a consistent effort. I did not take tuitions and prepared for the examination throughout the year. One of the most important things was attending classes regularly even though those were online. I studied a lot from the Internet and had gone through sample papers as well.”
Her family had been her constant support and she drew the inspiration from her brother, who is a software consultant. She is a musician and played piano during the exams to distress.
“Just put in the effort and learn to be more independent in your studies. You will definitely see results,” says the 17-year-old student. Her mother Hemani Sarin Singh is a lawyer at the Punjab and Haryana High Court and father Vikramjeet Singh a journalist.
Mahek Vijayvergia of Strawberry Fields High School has topped in the science stream with 97 per cent marks. The daughter of Dr Rajesh Vijayvergia, a cardiologist at the PGI, and Dr Anupam Vijayvergia, a faculty members of Punjab University, Mahek takes great inspiration from her parents as their guidance significantly helped her overcome the difficulty of the board exams.
She had a unique blend of subjects, which include physics, biology, economics, mathematics and English.
She credits regularity and consistency as defining pillars of her exam strategy. A few weeks before her exams, she dedicated 7-8 hours to her studies. She explained listening to music and freestyle dancing helped her cope with stress situations. She is also fond of playing badminton and have participated in inter-school competitions.
She is an avid fan of Nobel Prize-winning economist Abhijit Banerjee and aspires to devise economical, mathematical and medical tools for improvement in health services for the marginalised. She plans to pursue her further studies in the US.
Success mantra: Consistency defining pillar of her exam strategy
Students of Yadavindra Public School, Mohali, Aafreen Kaur (97 per cent), Shubhreet Kaur (96.75 per cent) and Akanksha Malge (95.75 per cent) have topped in non-medical, commerce and medical, respectively.
Aafreen wishes to become an aeronautical engineer and pursue higher studies abroad. She shared that she studied with full concentration and did not take too much pressure. Shubhreet is preparing to become an Army officer, while Akanksha is gearing up for the grind to become a doctor.
About the success mantra, Shubhreet said she chose topics that needed focus and she maintained contact with teachers to take constant guidance. Akanksha took mock tests frequently, solved previous years question papers, revised topics.
