Chandigarh grenade attack: Supplementary chargesheet filed against three
City police carried out investigation, but case transferred to NIA
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary charge-sheet against Rohan Masih, Vishal Masih and Abhijot Singh in connection with the grenade attack case of Chandigarh.
The supplementary charge-sheet has been filed in the NIA court here after more evidences against the accused persons in the case emerged during further investigation in the case. Earlier, the NIA had filed the charge-sheet against US-based gangster-turned-terrorist Harpreet Singh and Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda in the case in March.
On September 11, 2024, a grenade was hurled at a house in Sector 10-D, Chandigarh.
Initially, the Chandigarh Police had carried out the investigation, but later, the case was transferred to the NIA. The police arrested five accused in connection with the case, including an auto driver who transported the accused.
As per the investigating agency, Rohan and Vishal allegedly hurled a hand grenade at a house in Sector 10, Chandigarh, at the behest of Harpreet and Rinda. The accused had also carried out a recee before carrying out the attack.
After the attack, Harpreet allegedly claimed responsibility for the explosion, targeting a retired SP. Police officials said that the SP had been on the radar of militants for many years. Later, the police arrested the accused on the basis of the CCTV camera footage in which their faces were captured.
The owner of the house, a retired principal and his wife had a narrow escape in the attack. They had been sitting on the verandah just minutes before the attack. The NIA claimed that the agency got certain evidence, which indicate that Abhijot also had a role in plotting the grenade attack in Chandigarh.
The NIA had sent mobile phone data of the accused to the Central Forensic and Science Lab (CFSL), the investigation report of which revealed that these accused had links with Pakistan-based terrorists. The NIA also claimed that one of the accused in the case had revealed Abhijot’s name during interrogation.
