After registering an increase in September, the gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection witnessed a decline of 4 per cent in October in comparison to the gross levy collected during the corresponding period last year.
According to data released by the Ministry of Finance, the GST collection for October this year stood at Rs 233 crore, which is Rs 10 crore less than Rs 243 crore mopped up in the same month last year.
The UT had registered 17% growth in GST collection in September, as the collection stood at Rs 231 crore, which was Rs 34 crore more than Rs 197 crore mopped up in the same month last year.
Earlier, the GST collection in the city saw a drop of 2% in June this year and the tax collection dropped to 5 per cent in July and witnessed a further decline of 12 per cent in August.
The GST collection for August stood at Rs 214 crore, which was Rs 30 crore less than Rs 244 crore mopped up in the same month last year.
The tax collection in July was Rs 221 crore — Rs 12 crore less than Rs 233 crore collected in the same month last year. The June collection was Rs 4 crore less than Rs 224 crore mopped up in the same month last year.
At Rs 363 crore, the UT had registered a record increase of 53% in the gross GST collection in May year.
