Women’s judo team of Chandigarh claimed the overall second position in the Senior National Judo Championship held in New Delhi.

Ishroop Narang became the first senior national champion from Chandigarh. She won the gold medal in the -78kg category, while Mehak Singh bagged the third position in the -52kg event.

A total of eight players qualified for 38th National Games to be held in Uttarakhand. Kamini Yadav (-48kg) claimed fifth position, Mehak Singh (-57kg) second, Navroop (-57kg) seventh and Saniya Rai (-63kg) bagged seventh position.

In the men’s event, Himanshu (-60kg) claimed fifth position, Nitin Kumar (-66kg) seventh and Anuj Kumar (-100kg) secured seventh position. Eight individuals and a team of six players have also qualified for the mixed team event for 38th National Games, Uttarakhand.

All judokas are trained by Sports Council Coach Vivek Thakur at the Sector 34 Sports Complex.
