Putting forward yet another poor show, Chandigarh lads trailed by 475 runs with six wickets in hand, while chasing Karnataka’s first innings score of 547 at the end of second day’s play of the Ranji Trophy at the KSCA Stadium in Hubli.

Resuming from 298, Karnataka batters went on to score 547/8 before skipper Mayanak Aggarwal declared the innings. Overnight unbeaten, Smaran P continued to smash bowlers and posted an unbeaten 227.

However, top performance by Karnataka batters continued. Vishu (2/141), Nishunk Birla (2/159) and Jagjeet Singh Sandhu (2/70) shared wickets for the bowling side.

In reply, Chandigarh batters were expected to play calmly. However, the side ended the day with 72/4. Shivam Bhambri started the innings with Arjun Azad, but the duo was back to the pavilion at the team’s total of 53. Gopal claimed Bhamri (16), while Khan accounted Azad (32). Vishu (5) and Nikhil Thakur (1) were trapped by Gopal, as he claimed 3/18.

Punjab won the 5th Balramji Dass Tandon U-16 Multi Days Cricket Tournament on the basis of the first-inning lead over Tripura at the Sector 16 cricket stadium. Batting first, Tripura were bowled out for 158. Arish scored 70, while Rajdeep Debnath added 29. Varun Khatri was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5/32, while captain Sahibjot Attal and Shivam Matri claimed two wickets each.

In reply, Punjab finished at 252/4 in 90 overs to secure a crucial first-innings lead. Opener Jaskirat Singh (80) while Shivansh Sharma and RS Sohi added 56 each.

Varun Khatri was player of the match, while Sarabjot Attal was the player of the series. UTCA’s Adhiraj Kurl was the batter of the series. Acharya Manish announced cash prize of Rs 51,000 for the winners and Rs 31,000 for the runners-up.

After 64, city batters struggle at 89/5

After a disappointing performance in the first innings, the Chandigarh batters are on the verge of another collapse in the second innings against Uttar Pradesh in the Cooch Behar Trophy in Saharanpur.

After being restricted to 64, the Chandigarh batters were now playing at 89/5 while chasing 431 runs at the draw of stumps. The Uttar Pradesh batters stole the show as their innings witnessed two centuries. Opener, Anmol Noushran posted 100, while middle-order Bhavi Sharma scored 108.
