'Chandigarh Lake Club wants underwear stamped, smell test, no foul words in viral notice'; Twitterati calls it 'bizarre'
Tribune Web Desk
Chandigarh, August 3
Chandigarh Lake Club has “issued a notification” to all its members wanting them to follow “proper decorum on the premises”.
The notification has gone viral on social media.
The odd set of rules where “the underwear has to be stamped, and a smell test for gym members, among many other such weird rules”, has left Twitterati confused.
The notice was shared, on the microblogging website, by journalist Arshdeep Sandhu. The post has now been deleted.
The Lake Club management said it was “shararat” after the notice went viral.
The notice wants members to follow a “bizarre” set of rules when they are at the club’s gym or restaurant.
In the now-deleted tweet, Sandhu wrote: “The Lake Club Chandigarh notice. Read every single line. ‘Undergarment approval stamping’ and ‘permitted bad words’ Hilarious. Also ‘shave your legs’ if you plan to wear shorts (sic).”
“Gym users wearing shorts must shave their legs to preserve the decorum and to avoid unnecessary attention. Defaulters will be depilated at sight,” reads a part of the notice.
“Only approved undergarments” will be allowed at the gym. If this was not enough, there is also a point that says that the usage of foul language is not allowed, “only permitted bad words” are to be used at the sports complex.

Twitter reactions:
“How does a member fail the “smell test”? * Who is incharge of smelling members ? * Can members wax instead of shave ? * “Only approved undergarment are to be worn ! And who will check the brand of the underwea ?” * what if the member abuses in another language (sic),” Tehseen Poonawalla wrote.

Some users couldn’t believe what they read and called the post “fake”.
“Defaulters will be depilated at sight- Screams fake. Unless it’s real and someone with bizarre fetishes has wrested control of their management. Grinning face with smiling eyes (sic),” a user wrote.

‘depilated at sight’…I can imagine the management team running around with razors to punish the defaulters.— Dee Dee (@dracci) August 3, 2021
Later, Arshdeep Sandhu deleted her tweet after the club management removed the notice. “Update: The club management has removed it after hue and cry from members. Said it is a ‘shararat’ (mischeif) (sic),” she wrote.

When a Twitter user asked about the statement that the management issued, this is what Arshdeep wrote, “Not a statement as such, a member confronted them, and they seemed oblivious and then removed it, said k humne nahi lagaya (we did not put it).”
