Chandigarh lifts night curfew as city inches towards normalcy

The UT Administration has decided to completely lift the night curfew, as the Covid situation inches towards normalcy in the city. The night curfew was imposed on April 6.
During a review meeting on the Covid-19 pandemic, which was chaired by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, it was decided to fully withdraw the night curfew, which was in force from 11 pm to 5 am, as has been done in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana.
The Administration has allowed all restaurants and bars to open with 50 per cent capacity from 8 am till midnight.
Other decisions
The public can visit the government offices for their works between noon and 1 pm on all working days except Wednesdays and Fridays
Hockey, football and cricket academies of the UT Sports Department have been allowed to function. Parents’ consent needed for players under 18 years of age
50 per cent passenger capacity limit for public transport withdrawn
For marriages and social gatherings, only intimation and undertaking to adhere to the Covid protocol required, instead of permission
The public can now visit the government offices in connection with their works between noon and 1 pm on all working days except Wednesdays and Fridays. However, the visitors must have been vaccinated with at least the first dose or have a negative RT-PCR report not older than the past 72 hours.
In another decision, the Administration has allowed hockey, football and cricket academies of the Sports Department to function by following the Covid protocol and subject to a condition that all eligible players must have been vaccinated with at least the first dose. In case of players aged under 18, the parents’ consent is required. With a decline in Covid-19 cases, the Administration has also withdrawn the 50 per cent passenger capacity limit for public transport.
For marriages, social gatherings, etc, only intimation and undertaking to adhere to the Covid protocol will be required to be submitted to the SDM concerned, instead of permission.
During the meeting, PGI Director Dr Jagat Ram stated that they had 21 Covid patients in the institute and only one was from Chandigarh. The PGI Director stated that genome sequencing facility had been started at the institute and initially, 40 samples were being tested.
Dr Jasbinder Kaur, Director-Principal, GMCH-32, stated that there was only one Covid case at the hospital and the patient was from Himachal Pradesh.
Dr Amandeep Kang, Director, Health Services, UT, stated that no death was reported from the city this month so far. She stated that 9,98,641 doses of the vaccine had been administered in Chandigarh so far. Almost the entire eligible population had been given the first dose and 34.5 per cent had received the second dose.
