Issuing the orders here today, MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra said continuous indifference by violators had been viewed seriously and a special drive began from October 18 to remove such illegal advertisements.

She said the violators were liable to pay advertisement fees and penalties, which might run into several lakhs depending upon the size of illegal hoardings or advertisements. Such violations also attract action under the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code as well as the Indian Penal Code for the violation of Prevention of Delhi Defacement of Property Act, 2007. — TNS
