Chandigarh, December 3

The Municipal Corporation on Wednesday fixed the heritage manhole cover opposite Kashmir Emporium, Sector 17.

In a letter addressed to MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra on November 28, Ajay Jagga, member of the UT’s Heritage Items Protection Cell, had taken up the issue of the manhole cover lying unattended and at the risk of being stolen.

Mitra said, “The RCC slab has been fixed at the site and the heritage cover has been taken into possession.”

In August and September, two heritage manhole covers were spotted at the UT Sports Complex and Sector 21. The MC had fixed these then and now wants a permanent solution.

Mitra said a meeting with the UT’s heritage panel would be held soon to decide the fate of over 2,000 Corbusier-designed heritage manhole covers in the city.
