Chandigarh MC to boost sterilisation of stray dogs

Residents of Chandigarh will soon get relief from stray dog menace as the Municipal Corporation has planned to boost sterilisation drive.

Mayor Kuldeep Kumar accompanied by Isha Kamboj, Joint Commissioner and concerned health supervisor today visited Raipur Kalan-based Animal Birth Control Centre that has capacity of 310 kennels.

The concerned officers apprised the mayor about the kennel capacity and dog care unit where injured canines are treated. It has a laboratory, a hospital and an operation theatre. Besides sterilisation, vaccination of feral dogs is also carried out.

The mayor said residents of Chandigarh would soon get relief from the stray dog menace as the concerned staff has been asked to speed up the ABC programme that will help in controlling the population of stray dogs.

He said the Municipal Corporation has sufficient vehicles to pick up stray dogs and sterilise them in the ABC centre. Also, another ABC centre may be built having capacity of 1,000 dogs. Besides, the mayor visited a gaushala and took stock of the cattle, feed and their wellbeing.

ULB delegation from MP in city

Chandigarh: A 32-member delegation of various urban local bodies (ULBs ) of Madhya Pradesh visited Chandigarh to explore MC’s best practices in waste management. The delegates toured Pink MRF, witnessing waste segregation, and visited the newly constructed state-of-the-art composting plant with a capacity of 300 TPD at Dadumajra. They explored the pre-sorting area, trommels for sifting dry waste from wet, sheds for windrow composting, and a leachate treatment plant at Water Works Sector-39. The delegates also learned about the mobile water testing lab and the Horticulture Waste Plant at 3 BRD that transforms waste into valuable resources. “Insights into the C&D waste plant producing tiles, bricks and pavers were also gained. Through shared learning, we can make a positive impact on our environment,” said an official. tns
