Chandigarh, January 28
Hockey Chandigarh faced yet another defeat in the 10th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2020 (A division) as they went down 2-5 to Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) in their Pool A match in Jhansi today.
Both sides were tied 2-2 for more than half of the match, but once the SSCB broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute, the team raced away to victory.
Ashis Topno (9th), Aakib Rahim (13th), Ajinkya Jadhav (42nd), Rahul (51st) and Jugraj Singh (57th) scored for the SSCB, while Harsimranjeet Singh (3rd) and Sanjay (32nd) struck for Chandigarh.
Earlier, Hockey Punjab and Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu played out 2-2 draw.
Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu led the first-half 2-0, but Punjab came back strongly to level the scores in the second-half.
Mareeswaran Sakthivel (13th) and Selvaraj Kanagaraj (25th) scored a goal each for Tamil Nadu, while Ashishpal Sharma (44th) and Varinder Singh (51st) hit home for Punjab.
In Pool C, Hockey Haryana registered a 2-1 win over Canara Bank.
Haryana was leading 1-0 for the major part of the match before the bankers found the equaliser in the 58th minute. However, Haryana men made amends in the very next minute to a seal the match.
Vikas (15th) and Rajant (59th) found the back of the net for Haryana, while N Kumar (58th) scored for Canara Bank.
In another Pool C match, Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB) were held for a 2-2 draw by Association of Indian Universities.
The bankers took the lead through Prabhdeep Singh in the 4th minute and Prince doubled their tally in the 36th minute. However, Association of Indian Universities fought back and drew level in the last quarter of the match. Gaganjeet Singh (48th) and Sukhjeet Singh (55th) scored a goal each for Association of Indian Universities.
Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) and Central Secretariat also played out a 2-2 draw. Mohammad Shariq (32nd, 52nd) scored a brace for Central Secretariat, while Diwakar Ram (47th) and Roshan Minz (60th) struck for the PSPB.
The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd came from behind to beat Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 4-2 in a Pool B encounter.
Captain Yuvraj Walmiki (8th, 16th) scored a double, while Vinay Walmiki (22nd) and Pawan Rajbhar (33rd) added a goal each to the Mumbai tally. Mohammad Wasiullah Khan (7th) and Deepak (27th) scored for the CRPF.
