Chandigarh: An unidentified person snatched a mobile phone from Satya Priya Narwal near the lake at Sector 42 on Saturday. The police have registered a case at the Sector 36 police station on a complaint filed by the victim. TNS

Two arrested under Arms Act

Chandigarh: The police have arrested two persons for carrying knives. The police said Vinod, a resident of Sector 25, was arrested near the Panjab University campus with a knife. In the other case, Sanjay Singh of Jagatpur village, Mohali, was arrested at Sector 51 with a knife. The police have registered cases against both suspects. TNS

Youth held for battery theft

Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested a resident of Dhanas for stealing batteries from an e-rickshaw. Ashwani Kumar, a resident of Sector 46, reported that an unidentified person stole four batteries from his e-rickshaw parked at Phase II, Ram Darbar. The police arrested the suspect, identified as Rajat Gupta (29). TNS

Man, son injured in hit-and-run

Chandigarh: Lakshay, a resident of Sector 41, reported that the scooter he and his father Yatinder Kumar were riding was hit by a speeding Jeep near the CRPF campus, Hallo Majra. Both were admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32. The police have registered a case at the Sector 31 police station and started investigation. TNS

Mahashivratri celebrations

Chandigarh: Government College of Education, Sector 20, will celebrate Mahashivratri on the intervening night of March 8 and 9 (from 6 pm to 6 am). The celebrations will include art, yoga, musical and cultural performances. TNS

JC Anand Memorial Lecture at PU

Chandigarh: Prof Manish Jha from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, delivered the 8th Annual JC Anand Memorial Lecture, organised by the Department of Political Science at the PU. His lecture, ‘Populism as Political Practice: Interrogating Social Justice and Social Policies’, drew an audience comprising students and faculty of the university. TNS

Kapoor to play int’l tennis meet

Chandigarh: Local player Pawan Kapoor has been selected by the All India Tennis Association to represent India in the ITF Masters World Team Championship, to be held in Mexico from April 29 to May 14. Kapoor will also take part in the ITF Masters World Individual Championships.
