Massive traffic jam hits Mohali, Zirakpur amid 'PU Bandh' protests

Long queues of vehicles created chaotic traffic movement in Mohali and Zirakpur on Monday as UT police barricaded the Chandigarh-Mohali border ahead of the ‘PU Bandh’ called by student groups and organisations demanding the notification of Panjab University Senate elections.

The UT police restricted entry into Chandigarh by barricading the Chandigarh-Mohali border near Phase-6 in Mohali.

Trucks and buses were stationed on the road, and barricades manned by police personnel restricted entry into Chandigarh, intensifying the traffic snarls.

The move led to long queues of vehicles in Phase-6, Mohali, creating chaotic traffic movement. Traffic remained erratic across Mohali as commuters searched for alternative routes.

At the Chandigarh-Zirakpur border, vehicles were stuck in long jams as police checked incoming traffic.

Many vehicles attempted illegal detours to bypass the jam, further worsening the situation in Zirakpur.

Meanwhile, protesters sitting near YPS Chowk attempted to move towards Chandigarh despite the UT police barricades at the border.

Sources said a sizeable number of protesters have already entered Chandigarh through other entry points.
