Chandigarh, June 28
To ease patients’ woes at OPDs, the PGI has installed 85 units of three-seater chairs in the second and fifth floors of New OPD Block to enhance seating arrangements for them.
The PGI Director, Prof Vivek Lal, said, “Multiple chairs have been installed in New OPD Block for the ease of patients and their attendants. Every little step towards reducing patients’ burden is what counts.”
With this, more than 250 seats have been arranged for patients and their attendants. Chandigarh Tribune had earlier also highlighted that patients had to wait outside doctors’ rooms for their turn for two to three hours. Patients can be seen sitting on floors outside the doctors’ room after the seats get occupied.
Besides, the PGI is also improving the waiting area of the Emergency ward where patients’ attendants can take rest.
With over 9,000-10,000 patients visiting the OPDs every day, the PGI is weighed down under the immense load of patients. There are 200 beds at the Advanced Trauma Centre and the Emergency ward, and the institute sees a relentless flow of around 800-1,000 patients a day.
