Rahul, a resident of Sector 20, Panchkula, in the claim petition filed under Section 166 of the Motor Vehicles Act, said that on December 21, 2018, he was going home on his motorcycle with two others when a van coming from the opposite direction hit the bike in Zirakpur.

They sustained injuries and were taken to the PGI, Chandigarh, by the van driver, but thereafter, he fled the scene.

In the accident, he suffered multiple fractures in his right leg, injuries on the head and a toe amputation, following which he became permanently disabled and was unable to work. He earned around Rs 20,000 a month as a labourer before the accident. He sought Rs 30 lakh, along with an annual interest rate of 12%, from the date of the accident, as compensation.
