Chandigarh mulls packages to tap tourism potential

Hit hard by the Covid pandemic, the UT Administration has planned to offer packages to tourists visiting the city and neighbouring states in order to boost the tourism sector.

In a bid to tap the potential of tourism, UT Adviser Dharam Pal said directions were issued to work out packages for tourists on different aspects such as nature walk, heritage walk and other local attractions within the city. Similarly, packages for people visiting tourist destinations in the neighbouring states of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana could also be worked out, he said, adding that the package could range from one day to four days, depending on the duration of stay of tourists. The directions were issued at a meeting of the Society for Tourism and Entertainment Promotion in Chandigarh (STEPS), which was chaired by the Adviser.

An official of the Tourism Department said they were also working on religious tours to places like the Mansa Devi temple in Panchkula, Anandpur Sahib in Ropar district and the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Among the major tourist attractions in the city are Le Corbusier Centre, Sector 19, Pierre Jeanneret Museum, Sector 5, the Nepli forest, the Kansal forest, Sukhna Lake, wildlife sanctuary, bird park, International Dolls Museum, Sector 23, Natural History Museum, Sector 10, National Gallery of Portraits, Sector 17, Garden of Silence, Leisure Valley, Japanese Garden, Rose Garden, Topiary Park, Fragrance Garden and the world famous Rock Garden.
