Nursing staff at the PGIMER, Chandigarh, held a peaceful protest today, pressing for urgent administrative action on some long-standing issues affecting their professional growth and working conditions.

Organised by the PGI Nurses Welfare Association (PGINWA), the protest saw participation from hundreds of nursing staff members who voiced their frustration over persistent delays in promotions, chronic staffing shortages, assigning of non-nursing duties and prolonged inaction on cadre restructuring.

Speaking on the occasion, the association’s president said, “Today’s protest was more than symbolic and had a clear message. PGI’s nursing staff are united and we refuse to let our concerns be sidelined any longer. We serve this institution tirelessly every day, but our professional rights and dignity cannot be put on indefinite hold.”

Calling the protest a turning point, the leadership warned that this demonstration might be the beginning of a wider movement if their demands were continued to be overlooked. The association plans to continue the protest till their demands are met.

The nursing staff have urged the PGIMER administration to engage in a meaningful dialogue and address their concerns promptly, warning that continued silence could erode their morale in one of the country’s premier healthcare institutions.

The protest was carried out without disrupting hospital services, with the association ensuring patient care continued uninterrupted.
