Chandigarh Police hold mock drill to assess I-Day readiness

To assess emergency response coordination between departments ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, the Operations Cell of the UT police conducted a mock drill at their headquarters in Sector 9 here today.

The exercise was carried out under the direction of SP (Operations) Geetanjali Khandelwal and the supervision of DSP (Operations) P Abhinandan.

During the drill, the Police Headquarters was cordoned off and evacuated by Operations Cell commandos. A joint search operation involving bomb detection squad and dog squad located a dummy bomb near the HDFC Bank ATM.

Quick reaction teams, PCR vehicles, ambulances from the GMSH-16 and the Police Hospital, fire brigade, Civil Defence, mobile forensic unit, District Crime Cell and personnel from the Sector 3 police station responded immediately.

A thorough search was conducted, but no other suspicious item was found.

The dummy device was transported safely in a truck to the Police Lines, Sector 26, for defusal.
