With the onset of the festive season, Chandigarh Police have announced a series of measures to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow. The traffic police have appealed to citizens to cooperate in reducing congestion, especially around busy markets in the run-up to Diwali.

In anticipation of heavy traffic, residents are encouraged to walk to nearby destinations, avoid peak travel hours, carpool where possible and park only in designated areas.

Authorities have warned that vehicles parked on roads, cycle tracks or pedestrian pathways may be towed or clamped. To ease parking shortages, arrangements have been made in government school premises across the city, including sectors 8, 15, 18, 22, 29, 35 and 47, as well as in Mani Majra.

Motorists are advised to remain patient during traffic jams and refrain from unnecessary honking.

Alongside traffic management, Chandigarh Police are also focusing on digital safety during the festive season. As part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, PS-Cyber Crime, Sector 17, organised awareness sessions at Ramleela events across the city. Attendees were sensitised about online threats such as digital arrest scams, phishing, OTP-based frauds, impersonation and fake customer care calls.

Officials highlighted the growing risk of cyber frauds, especially against senior citizens, and stressed the need for “digital hygiene” and cautious online behaviour. Through real-life examples, the police demonstrated common fraud tactics and shared tips to prevent falling victim.

The dual initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to public safety—both on the roads and online—during the festive season. Police have urged citizens to cooperate by following advisories and celebrating responsibly.
